Every year I toy with all these New Year’s resolutions in my head but I never stick to them. This year, I’m going to really try hard to not make myself some empty promises so I can really have the best year I can possibly have. I’m posting them here so I can hold myself accountable to them and hopefully actually come back throughout the year to see how I am doing.
1. Take better care of my skin.
All my life I have always been stubborn when it comes to skin care. Throughout high school I never really completely listened to my mom whenever she told me to make sure I washed all my make up off my face at night, and because of that unwillingness to listen I was always prone to acne. Now, I have very sensitive skin and and even more prone to acne. My constant habit of overworking myself brings on a lot of stress, which then conveniently shows up on my face. I’ve used multiple different acne washes and facial cleansers in the past, but not consistently enough to really get results. I’ve recently started using a new line of cleansers from Dermologica that seem to be working, but it’s still a little too early to tell if it’s completely working. I have been seeing some results, and it’s up to me to be diligent with this routine. I also found out in the last couple months that face masks really help too, so I hope to keep those part of my resolution as well.
2. Get organized.
I am the most organized unorganized person on the face of the Earth, ever. If you ask my mom, she’ll tell you that this is probably one of the most annoying qualities I possess. My organization habits are very sporadic and most of the time have no logic behind them whatsoever. The majority of the time, my room is basically organized chaos. My desk is a place where I throw receipts and papers and old study guides that I either don’t need anymore or need a place to put so they stop weighing my backpack down. There’s no order to my closet, which is just a horrible mess in and of itself. I’m lucky my clothes aren’t wrinkled half the time. My goal is to keep my spaces organized, to have better time management skills, and to keep my life organized in hopes that I won’t spontaneously combust due to copious amounts of unneeded stress brought on by the organized chaos currently in my life.
3. Try new things.
I am a creature of habit. I’ve gotten better at breaking out of my habitual shell since I started college, but a lot of the time I still like the things the way I like them. This year I want to get out of that habit, to stop just ordering my usual bacon cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato (although, I’ll admit, I only just started doing that within the last three years). And this isn’t just in regards to food, either. I want to be more adventurous and dive in to what this year has to offer. On May 7 I graduate from Ball State and that is really the last day of my ‘childhood’ and the first day of my actual adult life (I’m fairly convinced that I’ve really just been playing dress up since I technically became an adult when I turned 18). It’ll be an adventure where I’ll experience new things around every corner, and I’m thoroughly excited to see what they are.
